What Pressure Should Be on the Tyres of the Car?

Tyres pressure is a critical point that should not be neglected for many reasons. One of them is a direct relationship with fuel consumption.

Tyre pressure also tells you how long it should last. How can a lack of pressure or an excess of it affect fuel consumption? And how can a decrease in tyre-on-wheel life be determined? These issues will be covered in this article.

Service life and tyres pressure

It is essential to monitor this indicator. It must comply with the norm that manufacturers indicate on their products – the front side of the protector, the car door pillar, the gas tank cap.

Typically, this information includes a recommendation for the pressure used, the load index, and the protectors’ size. The car owner should be aware that the above indicators are the maximum allowable but not optimal.

Tyre pressure, in most cases, should not exceed 2.5 atmospheres. By controlling this indicator, the driver will ensure his own safety. Exceeding this value will shorten the tread life by 1/5. On the other hand, if the pressure is 4 atmospheres, it is fraught with the explosion of the wheel.

Do not forget about one more property of the tyre. If it has been operated at low pressure for a long time and then increased, it becomes fraught with an explosion.

Fuel consumption versus tyre pressure

Measuring tyre pressure, how to do it?

To successfully carry out this procedure, you must use a pressure gauge. This device allows you to measure how many kilograms of air are in 1 sq. see tread. This should be done at least once a month. If the car is used quite intensively, then more often.

Ambient temperature will affect tread pressure. A sharp drop in air temperature by 10 C will lead to a decline in tyre pressure. Thus, if frost occurs, and the last pressure measurements were made not so long ago before that, it is advisable to repeat them. In winter, the measurements of this indicator should be increased.
